This weeks activities have either come about as a result of child-initiated discussions (around ‘pets’ & animals) or because we’re still finishing investigating some nature-based things. At the same time, I try very hard to follow objective-led planning & so all areas have these in mind too.
Here are some of our activities…
.
Discovery Table
Continuing with previous planting & seed investigations…
.
Animals in the ‘Pet World’
Various children have been talking to me about their pets over the past few days & as I have some pet-themed small world animals I thought they might enjoy a little world full of them…
.
Finger Gym
Stones, gemstones & mini ladybirds…
.
Maths Area
Quite simple really; butterflies, glass nuggets & a selection of numbered resources (wooden numbers, wooden chips & flowers & also butter beans)…
.
Panda ‘World’
One of the girls brought in a book to show me, all about pandas, so I couldn’t resist creating this with her in mind…
.
Water Tray
Bird seed & birds…
.
Sand Tray
Slithering snakes…
.
Agate Slices on the Lightbox
I put the mirror box on here too, so lots of exploring reflection as well as looking at the beautiful agates…
.
Train Play
This is left out from last week after popular demand. I didn’t share it here last week as I posted about Garden Maths Ideas instead, but they have really enjoyed the simple play. The mirror on the table adds an alternative perspective & I added blocks & people too…
.
Play Dough
Nothing to do with animals or nature but we need to continue to work on recognising letters, so that has been the focus here this week – a mixture of adult directed & simple play…

Thanks for reading!

Such gorgeous provocations for learning as ever. I really like how you created a mini small world in response to one child’s interest in pandas- I bet she loved it and that really values her and her interests 🙂
Thank you again, lovely TwitterPal (“,) Yes, she loved her Panda world 😉
So beautiful! Where did you get your agate slices?
Can’t wait to see what you set up for next week! REALLY enjoying stalking, I mean, following you!

Haha, thanks Chris! The agate slices actually came from the Early Excellence Centre in Huddersfield (England), but I know you can buy them online & from eBay (“,)
You’ve inspired me as always, can’t wait to try some these ideas out with my class 🙂
Oh thank you, Amy, that’s lovely! Have fun 😀
I love the letter stamps, as well as everything else, where did you get them?
Can’t remember, but I suspect TTS or YPO (UK based). Lots of the educational catalogues do them (“,)
What lovely activities! Where did you find the small world pets from? Thanks
Thanks ejay! They were from a private seller on eBay, but are ‘Safari Toobs Pets’ & are available on Amazon 🙂
